What the Mind Forgets, the Body Remembers
Long after the mind has moved on from a difficult experience, the body can go on holding an imprint of what happened. It might show up as a tightness in the chest that appears out of nowhere, an ache that won't respond to treatment, or a sense of unease in situations that ought to feel safe.
In my experience these sensations carry meaning. They're the body's way of keeping a story alive until it can be fully met and resolved, held in the tissues, the fascia, the nervous system and the energetic field.
I think of this as a kind of intelligence. The body holds on to what the mind wasn't ready to process at the time, and it waits patiently for the right conditions to come along: enough safety, enough support and enough presence.
Working with embodied memory directly opens up a different possibility. Through a precise and gentle dialogue, the tissue and energy are given the chance to reorganise themselves, and that conversation happens at the level where the original imprint is held.
People often describe something shifting that they can't quite put into words, whether it's a release that needs no explanation or a sense of space opening up where there used to be constriction. Given the right conditions, the body has a remarkable capacity to heal.
If you've been carrying something your mind reasoned away long ago but your body keeps expressing, this may be the missing piece. Sometimes what's needed most is a direct conversation with the part of you that has been waiting patiently to be heard.
