The Soul Doctor Method™
One of the simplest and most effective ways to calm the nervous system. It requires no special posture, no equipment, and can be done anywhere — in a meeting, before sleep, during a difficult moment, or as a daily reset.
The Practice
Sit or stand comfortably. Let your shoulders drop. Soften your jaw.
Place the tip of your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth. This completes an energetic circuit and deepens the calming effect.
Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four, keeping the tongue in place.
Pause gently at the top of the breath — no strain, just a soft pause. You may relax the tongue here.
Breathe out slowly through your nose or mouth for a count of four.
Pause gently at the bottom of the breath.
Repeat.
Continue for at least five rounds, or as long as feels supportive. Many people find that two to three minutes produces a noticeable shift.
As you settle into the rhythm, allow a gentle smile to soften your face. Feel into your heart and let gratitude arise — for your breath, for this moment of calm, for your body's capacity to settle. This heart-centred gratitude expands the benefits of the practice.
Guidance
The count does not need to be precise. What matters is the rhythm: equal inhale and exhale, with soft pauses between.
If four counts feels too short or too long, adjust to three or five. The symmetry matters more than the number.
Breathe gently. This is not about filling your lungs completely or forcing the exhale. Soft, steady, rhythmic.
If your mind wanders, simply return to the count. No need to restart — just continue from where you are.
When to use
Before sessions (yours or others')
When you notice tension, anxiety, or overwhelm rising
As a transition between activities
Before sleep
Anytime you want to return to centre
Notes
This practice directly activates the parasympathetic nervous system, signalling safety to the body.
With regular use, your nervous system learns to settle more quickly. The practice becomes a familiar pathway back to calm.
Your breath is always with you. It is the simplest tool you have, and one of the most powerful.
With warmth,
Larissa
